The project was completed as a 2-week long appliance redesign sprint. My goal was to identify key shortcomings in an existing household coffee maker and develop a more considered concept through form, interface, and brew architecture.
The whole device is made up mostly of polyproylene and a few bits of steel. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Opportunities
UI buttons and overall experience is confusing.
Coffee grounds are sometimes left untouched around the rim during brewing.
Internal water levels are only visible form one angle.
This is a very simple architecture; I could play with form a lot while maintaining the necessary functions of a coffee drip machine.

Minimal UI with a rotary knob for navigating a deadfront screen.
Filter basket slots into a rail system, reinforced by magnets.
Shower head covers coffee grounds.
A circular head covers a greater surface area, so you can get the most out of your coffee grounds.
